The Process: The Bloom & The Blackness

Things have been a bit crazy lately. From subbing Horton and contemporary classes at Steps on Broadway and my regular Friday night ballet class at Restoration Center for Arts and Culture to dancing in 4 different projects (including my own), I've barely had time to eat, let alone blog!

This process has been a little different for me. I usually have a festival, commission, or venue that I've already been invited to before I create a piece. This time I heard the music, met the composer, and had an idea for a piece with nowhere to perform.

Frances, the composer, and I sent several messages back and forth pooling our resources, and thinking of who we might know with a theater or performance series. After asking around and coming up short, I eventually decided to look at established theaters that I wasn't connected to. I applied to a few residencies and got quite a few no's. It was disheartening, but we had to keep trying. We absolutely needed this project to happen!

Anyway, it's official! After much searching, applications, and proposals things are FINALLY underway. We will be premiering The Bloom & The Blackness as part of Dixon Place's Fast Forward Series!

I am so excited to share this with you! If you're free and in or near NYC on March 21st at 7:30pm, I'd love to see you there. For tickets visit http://dixonplace.org/performances/fast-forward-3-21/ and use the promotional code FF2017 for $12 discounted tickets.
